GENERAL INFORMATION:
Alzara-DM is a dual-acting cognitive enhancer for the management of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia-related cognitive decline.
It combines two well-established agents with complementary mechanisms:
- Donepezil, an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, increases brain acetylcholine levels to improve memory, attention, and communication between nerve cells.
- Memantine, an NMDA-receptor antagonist, modulates excessive glutamate activity that contributes to neuronal damage and cognitive impairment.
Together, they help slow progression of symptoms, improve daily functioning, and enhance quality of life in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease.
INDICATIONS & USES:
Alzara-DM is indicated for:
- Alzheimer’s disease (mild to moderate stages)
- Mixed dementia (Alzheimer’s + vascular type)
- Cognitive decline associated with aging or neurodegenerative disorders (as prescribed)
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION:
- Usual adult dose: One tablet once daily, preferably in the evening after food, or as directed by your physician.
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew.
- Dosage may be individualized based on clinical response and tolerance.
- Treatment should be continued regularly for sustained benefit under medical supervision.
COMMON SIDE EFFECTS:
Usually mild and transient:
- Nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite
- Dizziness, fatigue, or headache
- Insomnia or vivid dreams
- Mild diarrhea or abdominal discomfort
LESS COMMON / RARE SIDE EFFECTS:
- Bradycardia (slow heartbeat) or fainting
- Muscle cramps
- Mood changes or confusion
- Urinary frequency or incontinence
- Allergic rash (rare)
If any of these persist or worsen, contact your doctor immediately.
WARNINGS & PRECAUTIONS:
- Use with caution in patients with cardiac conduction disorders, asthma, COPD, or peptic-ulcer disease.
- Donepezil may enhance vagal tone; monitor pulse and blood pressure.
- Memantine dose adjustment may be required in renal impairment.
- Avoid alcohol consumption during therapy.
- Not recommended in severe hepatic or renal dysfunction unless advised by a physician.
- Use during pregnancy or lactation only if clearly necessary.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
- Memantine may interact with:
- Amantadine, ketamine, dextromethorphan (increase CNS effects).
- Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors or sodium bicarbonate (alter elimination).
- Donepezil may interact with:
- Anticholinergics, succinylcholine, or neuromuscular blockers.
- CYP3A4 or CYP2D6 inhibitors/inducers (ketoconazole, phenytoin, carbamazepine).
Always inform your doctor about all medications, supplements, or herbal products you use.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
- Known hypersensitivity to Donepezil, Memantine, or any tablet excipients
- Severe hepatic impairment
- Sick-sinus syndrome or symptomatic bradycardia
History of seizure disorders (use with caution)
